my journey west, part 3 - 803

so, lets see,
after china camp something "home" like had to come my way right?
right!
the day before we started work sara and i secured ourselves a nice little apartment in petaluma, ca.
that is what we now refer to as "803"
clever since thats also our house number.
when asked to describe 803,
not much comes to mind,
nice 2 bedroom apartment with 4 people living in it,
we have a bathroom with 2 sinks, a toilet, and a shower,
we have 2 bedrooms, the only difference between them is my closet has shelves,
success!
we have a kitchen,
we have a living room,
we have a dining room,
its an apartment.
but, we spiced it up a bit by decorating our walls.
but we didnt decorate alone,
we had our friends help.
as in whenever we have people over, everyone draws on our walls.
its pretty freakin awesome.
i'll add some photos sometime.
not much to say really about 803,
other then its freakin awesome and you'll never visit anywhere cooler in you life.
now, there is still a lot of things to be discussed about my time in cali,
but i have to start using some caution with what i post.
well, the only thing i need to use caution on is some of the events of halloween.
so my next post will be about staff training, and our staff trips, and staff camping,
and then the post after that will be the postable parts of halloween.
i feel that most of the parts are ok to share, but there are a few parts that could just be awkward if to many people found out, so keeping it between me, the people that were there, and the people i have already told, will be best. haha.
but i'll decide when its time to type about that!
I'M OUT!

my journey west, part 2 - china camp -

so, it just seems right that my first few nights in california were crazy, i dont think it would have been right for something for me to have gone without any weird bumps. haha, thus my life.
so to start, i was a little later getting to san rafael then i thought,
seems i underestimated the time it would take me to go the miles i needed to in order to finish my 3 day journey.
so sara established the camp ground and set up the tent and got everything ready for my arrival.
only thing, i couldnt find the camp ground.
so i called sara and she gave me directions,
but her directions were slightly wrong,
and i drove past the entrance,
twice.
and the policy of china camp is to lock the gate at 9 pm and not open it the next day till 8 am.
so at 8:30 sara and i were both a little worried as to me actually getting into the camp ground.
but, after stopping at a rangers station, i was directed to the gate and got there without a problem.
sara and i were excited to be meeting each other, and we were both a little weirded out by our settings.
china camp, when seen for the first time at night, is a creepy place.
but the 2 of us got to the tent, and we got my stuff in it, and then we didnt really no what to do.
so we talked about how sara didnt have the stakes for the tent, so she used rocks to hold down the straps,
and about how it was a long drive for me to get here, and the 3 hour time difference.
then we decided a campfire would be a good idea.
so we retrieved some wet wood from sara's car and tried to start a fire with no starter wood or paper, no matches or lighter, and wet wood.
as you might have guessed, we wern't doing so good.
so we walked up a trail and asked someone camping up the hill if they had some matches we could borrow.
like any well prepared camper, they did.
so now we had matches and wet wood.
we were getting closer to success.
but after a handful of failed match attempts, i think we were getting close to giving up when a fellow camper came walking by our site.
he asked if we needed help, and we answered yes.
answering him was the first part of where we went wrong.
he came over and used some of his dry wood and some of his skills to start our fire.
we thanked him and took the matches back to the camper who loaned them to us, and when we returned to our site our helper was still standing there next to the fire.
so we decided to talk to him, figured it wouldnt hurt.
only he ended up being super creepy and weird.
and while he was creeping us out, and giant, bigger then anything recorded in history, massive racoon came wondering through our camp site.
really, the thing was crazy huge.
and eli (that was the creepy guys name) continued to stand around our site, talking to us about weird stuff.
like his love for standing.
yup, eli talked to us about how he loved to just stand,
stand for long periods of time.
just stand and think.
he also told us and x - rated story about how fire was first started.
which was weird.
i wasnt expecting him to get all crazy x - rated on a story about trees and fire
-sidenote- if anyone would like to no the crazy story, let me no, i feel everything should be shared.
eli also had a new exercise he was working on, and was more then happy to show it to sara and i.
seems eli had invented "tree ups", which is what i'm calling them,
where he went over to a tree,
did a hand stand,
wrapped his legs around the tree,
so as now he is hanging upside down from the tree by his legs,
and did upside down sit-ups.
he was very proud of himself for this.
we tried not to laugh,
atleast i tried not to laugh.
and after a failed attempt at a story told by sara and i about a badger who got beat up,
we convinced eli that i was really tired, and we needed to go to sleep.
so he left and we ran into our tent.
were 2 people who didnt no each other slept very close to each other for the first night of their lives in san rafael.

then next night, after some failed attempts at house hunting, and sara getting sick, i ended up camping at china camp alone.
it was creepy enough with someone else there, that all i did when i was alone was start a fire,
eat an orange,
and go to into my tent and read,
i read till it was dark,
then i forced myself to sleep early.

and thankfully, the next day, we found an apartment.
and thats how we ended up at 803!

for more updates on the adventures of my life in cali, stay tuned.

my journey west, part 1

so, i feel as if i should make a record of the why and how and when of my move to california, if not so people reading this can no, then so i can remember.
so here it goes ( i thought about typing "here goes it" right there, but i really hate when that pharse is used, so here it goes)
in august i was supposed to be moving to portland with 2 friends. and 1 of those people backed out.
so then i was supposed to be moving to washington with 1 friend.
but that friend and i no longer speak, and sometimes, i'm not gunna lie, i laugh while i picture them being attacked by bears. now, for the recored, they were not attacked by bears, i just like to picture it sometimes, as you can see, we dont speak anymore.
so, because i thought i was moving and had my advisor at a.c. change my status to inactive and cancel my classes, i was stuck with nothing to do for the next 5 months of my life, unless i wanted to take classes that had nothing to do with my major and waste multiples of thousands of dollars on a usless semester.
so i got online, determined not to be spending the next year of my life in ohio or michigan.
not because those states suck, but because i wanted out.
i wanted away.
i wanted adventure.
and i found a job listing online,
in california.
so i applied.
and i was interviewed.
and i was interviewed again.
and i was offered a position, for a year, in novato, ca.
i was out!
escaped.
free.
so i made the arrangements,
prepared my stuff,
and set off,
driving across the country to my new home.
only when i got to california,
i didnt have a new home.
i had a roommate to be with a tent and a reservation at china camp.
-sidenote- china camp is a state park in san rafael, california, there is nothing to do with china there, not even the people who run it have anything to do with china. misadvertisement if you ask me.
so sara and i shared a small little tent at china camp.
for 2 nights.
and china camp was a real adventure, which is where i'm going to leave off,
for the next chapter of my journey, i will pick up with the story of our stay at china camp.
until next time,
keep it happy slappy.

work = death to ....

so, it seems that all i ever do is work.
and that sucks.
but it also gives me tons of time to read.
which i really like.
i have already read 6 books this summer.
i'm half way through my 7th.
i have been writing alot lately as well.
but since i have been reading alot of david sedaris,
most of my writings have been essays.
which isnt bad.
i have been hanging out alot with stephanie,
which is always good.
in fact we gifted one day each week to specific lisa stephanie hangouts so as not to miss a week of hanging out.
pilgrim has been a regular additive to our hanouts.
he's an interesting fellow.
stephanie - pilgrim - and myself will be attending a mewithoutyou show on thursday.
that gives me something to look foward to this week.
mewithoutyou is my all time favorite, just so everyone no's.
i have to go to a nascar race tomorrow.
the things i get myself into.
i got locked out of the house last night.
for real this time.
the last time i thought i was locked out of the house i just pushed on the door really hard and realized it was just stuck.
not the case last night.
so i called mat, since its his house i figured he might no how to get in.
but he didnt answer.
i called him as a joke once telling him i was locked out to see if he would call me back.
he didnt call me back that time.
and when i called him last night and told him i was for real locked out he didnt call me back.
apperently its not a big to him my being stranded on his front porch.
so i called the house phone, at 1:30 am.
and aplogized a 100 times to mrs. hudson for waking her up.
she came in let me in.
the centre cafe plays alot of david crowder and i love it.
did i mention i have to go to a nascar race tomorrow?
i did!
did i tell you i have to be ready by 8 am?
i didnt!
well, yes, i need to be ready by 8 am becasue thats when my ride is picking me up.
it takes 35 minutes to get to the track.
the race starts at 1 pm.
why the hell do i have to be ready by 8 am?
shall be an interesting day to say the least.
i'm making sure to take my camera and a good book.
